Capsule, Jenny Bird and Chris Habana

J and Jenny Bird
Jenny Bird Arm Candy: Gypset Triple Wrap
J and Chris Habana
Crushing on the Regeneration Necklace

5th and I checked out of the fall lines of some amazing emerging designers at the Capsule presentation last weekend. We both fell in love with the jewelry lines of Jenny Bird and Chris Habana. They couldn't be more different from each other or more original from what is on the market.

Jenny's pieces are full of hand carved woods and earthy colors. They are perfect accents for when you are channeling the bohemian luxe in you. I got dizzy looking through all her pieces because I literally wanted to take everything home with me! They are all so wearable and so effortlessly chic!

Chris on the other hand is more hard core and completely on the edge. The designs are unique, daring and completely stunning. The pieces are the kind that you stop dead in your tracks and say, "where did you get that!"

So next time you are looking to update your baubles, make sure you check Jenny's and Chris' websites out. You may have also buy another jewelry box! xxj

What's In My Bag

I admit that one of my weekly indulgences is getting the email from Us Weekly that my issue is ready to download on my iPad. One of my favorite sections is "What's In My Bag". Inspired by that, here's what in my bag!

:: Bag:: Celine Cabas Tote- a great carry all for my marathon days around the city. I can fit all my things, plus everything my daughter needs and wants.

:: Wallet:: Louis Vuitton Organiser Insolite Wallet- I think LV wallets are the absolute best. Because they are made of canvas they are able to withstand being tossed around without a scratch. I also love the compartmentalization of this particular wallet. There are several slots for cards, 3 zippered pockets, 2 open pockets and a sleeve that you can receipts and/or plane tickets and passport easily.

:: Reading Material:: New York Post and NY Magazine- I absolutely have to have something to read on the subway or I go batty. Besides the books on my iPhone Kindle, I always have the day's NY Post and my weekly New York magazine. Both are good to give me enough to make small talk with my patients. I'm actually like reading the NY Times but hate having to open and fold the paper while on my commute.

:: Kids Stuff:: I think my daughter has just as much stuff in my bag as I do! We've got 2 pairs of princess high heels. One for her and one for her friend we are meeting for a play date, a Cliff Z Bar-just in case she gets hungry, and her art work from an after school class. I usually have a bottle of water for her in there too. No wonder my bag didn't feel as heavy today!

:: Make Up and such:: Lypsyl Lip Balm cause my lips are always dry. It's inexpensive but so good, dare I say better than Kiehls! YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lip Stain- an amazing glossy lip stain that isn't sticky and LASTS. Purell, for obvious reasons! Ricola cough drops. I carry all of this in a blue mesh makeup bag that I got in a fashion week goody bag years ago. I like this bag because it's so light weight and I can see what I'm looking for right away.

:: Sockerbit treat:: Believe it or not this was for me and not for my little one! Sockerbit is an amazing scandanavian candy store on Bleecker in the West Village. Every time I pass by it I have to stop in for something sweet. My favorite candy there is the Dumle Lakrits. It's a fabulously gooey concoction of milk chocolate, toffee and black licorice.

Well there's a little peak into my bag of tricks. Have a great weekend! xxj

New York Fashion Week Mara Hoffman Fall/Winter 2013

Mara Hoffman presents Mystics & Misfits

Mara Hoffman brings her traveling circus to town (aka Lincoln Center), with “gypsies, tramps and thieves,” taking us on a fashion journey. And now that we’ve been introduced, we never want them to leave! The circus of “mystics and misfits” translates into a variety of colorful prints, unique detailing and embellishments.

Mara used fabrics from Turkey and Uzbekistan, for her kaleidoscope of color. The collection also features amazingly detailed embroidered pieces with metal beading, including a poncho, shift dress and pant. Just because it’s cold outside, doesn’t mean it’s all blacks and greys, splash out and wear yellows, oranges, pinks and greens. Thank you Mara, for injecting color, dresses and caftans into the our fall attire!

Hoffman explains, “I wanted to embrace what we do best with this collection and give our girls what they move most-color, prints and wearable yet unique silhouettes.”

This collection was simply inspiring and we can’t wait for Fall to wear it.

New York Fashion Week Nicholas K Fall/Winter 2013

Yours truly was lucky enough to score a front row seat to the Nicholas K fashion show at Lincoln Center. Nicholas K opened up Fall/Winter 2013 MBFW with their amazing line. The sibling team Nicholas Kunz and Christopher Kunz are known for their loose fitting and multi-layered clothing. For fall they featured rich wool blends, light flowing knits, chunky plush sweaters, glacier hued plaids, angular cuts, and utilitarian closures.

The brand has grown greatly since its beginning in 2003, first with the menswear line in 2005. They now sell the Nicholas K collection in over 120 stores worldwide.  Nicholas K defines layering with their asymmetrical tailoring and full on layering with the softest of fabrics. I can't wait to rock their look come September!

Congrats to the Nicholas K team, very well done!

Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week (MBFW) 2013 Kicks Off...

Photography by Stefania Yarhi
Get your pout on fashionistas, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (MBFW) has offically started in New York City. It's that time of the year again when the Fall 2013 collections strut down the runway, and the creme de la creme of the fashion world witness it.

Over 100,000 guests will walk through Lincoln Center, while millions of fashion followers tune in around the world to get a glimpse of the shows and the stars. MBFW will kick off on Wednesday, February 6th with a special ribbon ceremony at the amfAR New York Gala at Cipriani Wall Street.

It's a year of comebacks at Lincoln Center. After six years off the runway, Kenneth Cole makes his return for Fall this Thursday taking center stage on opening night of fashion week.  The second comeback is Justin Timberlake! He wanted to "bring sexy back" and he will. JT is returning to the airwaves collaborating with Tom Ford for "Suits and Tie" - Ford designed his album cover look and video ensembles.

It's going to be a busy week for fashion & mommy bloggers, 5thandJane, with every morning the looming question "What am I going to wear today?", "How am I going to rock this outfit in this weather?", and "How can I be in two places at once?". But who can complain when there are fashion shows and parties to attend. With an average of 12 shows a day, there is a lot of fashion to see.

There will be a first for fashion week with Project RunwaySeason 11 returning with a twist that throws 16 eager designers into a panic when they discover they will be participating in the series' first ever Team Edition. Kate Spade is celebrating an important milestone with her 20th year, and will throw a "Happy Birthday" bash with a fashion week party.

MBFW will include NICHOLAS K, BCBGMAXAZRIA, RICHARD CHAI LOVE and RICHARD CHAI MEN’S, TIMO WEILAND WOMEN’S, TADASHI SHOJI, SERGIO DAVILA, CONCEPT KOREA, CZAR BY CESAR GALINDO, CARMEN MARC VALVO, NOON BY NOOR, NAUTICA, REBECCA MINKOFF, NICOLE MILLER, ACADEMY OF ART UNIVERSITY, PARKCHOONMOO, RUFFIAN, LACOSTE, JILL STUART, SON JUNG WAN, MARA HOFFMAN, HERVÉ LÉGER BY MAX AZRIA, KATYA LEONOVICH, MONIQUE LHUILLIER, VENEXIANA, LELA ROSE, TRACY REESE, CUSTO BARCELONA, DIANE VON FURSTENBERG, JOANNA MASTROIANNI, VIVIENNE TAM, RALPH RUCCI, EMERSON BY JACKIE FRASER-SWAN, ICB BY PRABAL GURUNG, CAROLINA HERRERA, PAMELLA ROLAND, KAUFMANFRANCO, BETSEY JOHNSON, REEM ACRA, BADGLEY MISCHKA, VERA WANG, JENNY PACKHAM, NAEEM KHAN, DENNIS BASSO, VANTAN TOKYO, BIBHU MOHAPATRA, MICHAEL KORS, NANETTE LEPORE, RACHEL ZOE, J. MENDEL, MILLY BY MICHELLE SMITH, FALGUNI AND SHANE PEACOCK, ANNA SUI, ZANG TOI and B MICHAEL AMERICA - what a mouthful...

But there's no better way to end fashion week with Valentine's Day and two of my favorite men, Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein.

Here's to an amazing week of fashion, parties, and air kisses!

'The In-Betweens'

Two friends, Clancy O'Connor and Lyndsay Becker have created a hilarious web series called "The In-Betweens" about their NYC life. Lyndsay is a struggling actress and Clancy is an out of work, trust funder, who endearingly takes care of his bestfriend.

Clancy appeared in HBO's 'John Adams,' NBC's Smash' and soon-to-be released 'Kill Your Darlings' starring Daniel Radcliffe.

Check out the Trailer: www.in-betweens.tv and Episode 1 of The In-Betweens: http://vimeo.com/47476660 .

The screening party is during Fashion Week at the Caufield in NYC (119 E 27th Street) on Monday, Feb. 11th at 7pm & you are all invited.

I was lucky enough to get an early preview of the full series. My favorite episode is when Lyndsay decides to have a baby, Clancy suggests carrying around a bag of flour for a week to see how well she cares for the flour. It did burn me up that she used a beautiful McQueen scarf to wrap the bag of flour, but besides that it was too funny. After the week, the bag was dropped, stepped on, wet and finally no longer, so Lyndsay decided to put motherhood on hold. Good idea. Much more to see on Feb 11th! xoxo
